Most Recent:

Indivisible Boise Chapter One was a leader in registering 1,800 new progressive voters and signing up 2,500 for vote-by-mail in Idaho prior to the 2018 mid-terms. We registered over 800 in 2019 before we were cut short by the COVID virus.

Vote Forward began in 2017 with tumultuous results, and the important backing of former president Barack Obama and former attorney general Eric Holder.  Shortly thereafter, Vote Forward received the critical endorsement of Indivisible, and Indivisible Boise Chapter One became one of the first Indivisible groups to sign up, sending over 20,000 letters in the 2018 election season and the Georgia Senate runoffs to flip the U.S. Senate and the House.

In 2022, we targeted Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin as critical states to 1) keep control of the U.S. Senate, 2) keep control of the U.S. House and 3) win governor’s races in key states and begin taking back statehouses across the country and sent 8,000 Vote Forward letters to those three states.  Our members also focused on those three states in their individual donations, and we worked feverishly to call and text people to GOTV.

Our efforts:

  1. Flipped a U.S. Senate seat in Pennsylvania, possibly determining control of that chamber.
  2. Won all six swing House districts in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
  3. Won important governor’s races in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, thus ensuring a safeguard in those two states to prevent the state legislature from throwing out the will of the voters in 2024.
  4. Prevented a Wisconsin supermajority in the House.
  5. Flipped the Pennsylvania statehouse for the first time in over a decade.

Indivisible Boise Chapter One has also given back to the community.  Indivisible Boise Chapter One co-sponsored the Holiday Food Drive & Tax Rally with the SW Idaho Chapter of NOW in 2017 and collected 1,000 pounds of food for The Idaho Food Bank.  We continued our efforts to help Idaho’s needy with a combined 750 pounds of food in 2022 and 2023 and contributed much-needed items for the Boise Community Schools.

Our national efforts in 2022 were amazingly successful, but we concluded that we didn’t send enough letters.  Had we been able to help in key districts in California and New York, for example, Democrats would have been able to hold onto the U.S. House.  Our members are willing to write more; it was evident that the lack of funds was the only thing holding us back.

As a tough Senate election year approaches, our targeted strategy for 2024 is to 1) keep the White House, 2) win at least 50 seats in the U.S. Senate 3) take back control of the U.S. House and 4) flip 2 seats in both the Arizona state House and Senate to give Democrats control for the first time in 58 years.

We have formulated a plan that targets 27 swing House districts in eight states (Arizona, California, Montana, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin), requiring at least 1,000 letters to be sent to each of the 27 close districts.  If we are successful, Joe Biden will have 285 electoral votes, 15 more than he needs, and Democrats will win 50 Senate seats and flip the U.S. House and will flip the Arizona statehouse.

2016-2022:

  1. After forming on January 13, 2017, we invited Senator Crapo to a town hall on February 20 at Boise State, which drew 620 people.
  2. Our 10 Visit Teams (with nearly 100 members) regularly visited our Members of Congress to voice concerns and work to stall the GOP legislative agenda. Hundreds of Indivisible Boise Chapter One callers rang their local and national offices on a wide variety of subjects.
  3. We began our “I Registered Five” campaign, where all members were called upon to register at least five progressive people.
  4. We campaigned for both Indivisible Boise Chapter One member Hy Kloc and progressive Kristin Muchow, and both won election to the Greater Boise Auditorium District, and Indivisible Boise Chapter One members helped fellow member Miranda Gold win election to the Eagle City Council and Holli Woodings won a city council spot there.
  5. We turned out at the Boise Airport to protest *45’s Travel Ban, rallied in opposition to ACA Repeal at both Crapo and Risch’s offices, protested stonewalling by Risch’s office, protested Risch’s absurd statement that “The whistleblower is to blame and not the person for whom the whistle was blown for” in the Pop Goes The Weasel Protest, and joined the SW Idaho Chapter of NOW to not only protest the Tax Scam but to help donate over 1,000 pounds of food to the Idaho Food Bank at the same time.  After attorney general William Barr sought to keep the Mueller Report from the public, we rallied on the Statehouse steps calling on Barr to Release The Report!
  6. Just as the national movement did, we co-sponsored the Idaho Tax Rally.
  7. Our calls to senators resulted in the withdrawal of at least five nominees for federal judge.
  8. Our members packed Labrador’s Meridian Town Hall and grilled the representative on his many wrong stances and outlooks.
  9. Our members worked on GOTV efforts in Montana and Georgia in efforts to win special elections there, and those efforts paid off in Alabama when we worked to elect Doug Jones to the U.S. Senate. We also helped get out the vote in Virginia, leading to a sweep of the top three races, and helping progressives make huge gains the House of Delegates, going from a deficit of 66-34 to a 50-50 tie.
  10. Our members also did great local work, including halting passage of the Con-Con in the Idaho Legislature, fighting off bad changes to Medicaid Expansion, and securing a veto from Governor Little of the effort to make citizens initiatives next to impossible.
  11. Nationally, Indivisible worked immediately to stiffen the spines of wavering Democrats in Congress. We defeated the repeal of the ACA twice, we put pressure on acting attorney general Rod Rosenstein to appoint Special Counsel Mueller, and forced over a dozen high-profile, safe Republicans to retire because of constant constituent pressure.
  12. We joined forces to get Medicaid Expansion on the ballot in 2018, as over 80 of our members gathered a total of over 15,000 signatures, many in key districts without which the petition would not have qualified.
  13. We were laser-focused on registering new progressive voters and encouraging all progressives to sign up for absentee ballots. We were also heavily involved in efforts to get our voters to the polls in November, including calling, texting, and offering rides to polling locations.
  14. Nationally, we didn’t just fight to resist the Trump agenda, we worked across the country to elect progressive representatives up and down the ballot in every single Congressional district.
  15. Collectively in 2018, members of Indivisible Boise Chapter One knocked on over 8,000 doors, distributed over 6,000 pieces of literature, including over 4,000 in District 15, sent over 6,000 Postcards to Progressives, including over 4,000 in District 15, sent over 2,500 texts and over 1,000 e-mails to GOTV, as well as several members contributing to campaigns and causes, phone banking and text banking, putting up yard signs and big signs for candidates, and much, much more.
  16. Our aggressive efforts resulted in the gain of five seats in the Idaho Legislature and the overwhelming passage of Medicaid Expansion.

Our Victorious Plan to Defeat Trump and Save Our Democracy:

We will continue our concerted efforts to oppose dangerous legislation with calls and visits to MoC offices and with postcards and e-mails and letters to the editor.

Once progressives captured control of the House in 2018, Democrats held serious investigations into the Trump Administration’s corruption. And we secured ourselves a block to dangerous legislation.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation found evidence of cooperation between Russia and the Trump campaign to influence the 2016 election and at least 10 separate instances of obstruction of justice by Trump.  We were one of the first groups to call for Trump’s impeachment and called any wavering House Democrats to convert them to “Yes” votes.  We were the first group in the nation to call for Trump’s second impeachment after he said he would not abide by the results of the 2020 election.  One by one, we got House Democrats on board and once January 6 occurred, all of them agreed with us that he should be impeached again.

We actively recruited progressives to run for office and, after meetings with both legislative and statewide candidates in 2018, we developed the plan and curriculum for Candidate Forums, to assist new and prospective candidates and give them a head-start in running for office.

To both encourage young people to vote and to join Indivisible Boise Chapter One, we supported the minimum wage initiative.  Although we secured more signatures than any other group in Idaho history on that issue, COVID forced us to suspend our campaign.

Although we registered 1,700 progressives for the 2018 election, we did not feel we made enough progress in registering people under 35.  So immediately after the 2018 election, we talked extensively with these individuals to find out their top pressing issue.  We already knew that they are fearful of climate change and believe in equality for everyone more than any generation before them.  What we found in talking to them is that the kitchen table issues are front and center.  They have mountains of debt and low wages, and many are hopeless that they can ever come close to paying off their debts, much less living the American dream.  From those discussions, it was easy to determine that working on a citizen’s initiative to raise the minimum wage in Idaho is the #1 thing we can do for them.  People 18-35 are more aligned with progressive views (70%) than any other generation, greatly increasing the chances for progressive wins IF we get them to the polls.

To maximize our 2020 election efforts, we stockpiled postcards in advance in 2019, and then addressed the postcards in the summer of 2020.  We sent out over 4,000 postcards to swing districts in Idaho.

Indivisible has bold and exciting plans to take back our democracy that are transformational!  It is a first-class organization you can be very proud of.
